Liquid Light

Light headed and infected
The cancer grows
Praying it slows
Or retreats

I'm exhausted
Dark circles
Almost purple
Needing sleep

A more relaxed lifestyle calls
A tropical island awaits
Sunlight on my face
Eating exotic fruits all day

The dark here is unbearable
But the tropical light
Lets me push on, push forward
Even for one more night.

On the island, there is no fight
The moon and stars shine bright
And the clean air purifies me
As my body is filled with liquid light.

The greatest Power

Once burned, twice shy.
But you've been burned so many times.
And it's sad that the wonder in your eyes
has taken leave tonight.
But I know what you're going through.
In fact, I walk this path with you.
And we shall yet be surprised
at the mountains of fear that love can move

Daily, Divine Encounters

Those who are living without
the beauties of romance
can still encounter love
(and therefore life)
through generosity,
honesty
and kindness.

Well Worth the Wait

I've lived through so many curses
that I'm scared of being blessed.
God don't let my cynicism
rob me of what's next.
Change this gloomy fate
of discontent and hate
to a joy that makes the sorrow
well worth the wait.

Undeserved Love

I am a fool
Distracted by shiny things
Incapable of holding my own
Yet you love me

I am broken
Lost ln a turbulent sea
Weary and confused I have grown
Yet you love me

Up this menacing cliff I climb
And I can't make one mistake
So much relies on my mind
And my tired soul aches
I color outside the lines
And I have a hard time
Controlling my mind
Usually I'm wrong, sometimes I'm right
Yet you love me

The City Hub

Hobbling and limping,
poor eyesight,
an aging man found his way home
through familiar, empty walkways.
The pain it came
when, drawn in by the energy,
he would explore distant,
crowded neighborhoods.
Cold and tired,
his knees would ache,
as hurried drivers honked
at his unsteady gait.
Yet he would endure the pain
of walking to this distant city hub,
motivated solely by a
lingering hope of
encountering love.
 On one of these days,
the sun shown with unusual brightness,
and music brought life to families
enjoying ice cream in the city square.
Smiling, he let the beauty soak in
when he noticed a woman,
sitting on a bench by herself.
This was two years ago,
and now they are happily married.
 Perhaps today,
you will see them holding hands,
sitting in the city hub,
enjoying the pleasant surprises
of unexpected love.

The Truth

The lie is that
because of something somebody said
or some mistake of the past
you are not worth much of anything,
A waste of space...
The truth is that,
woven together
in your mother's womb,
you are
a valuable, unique
creation.

Not Through

We have cause to be grateful
If there is breath in our lungs
For what good becomes
Of being disdainful?
We have cause to be grateful
If there are songs to be sung
And people who need to be loved.
God save us from being hateful
And if your eyes are tired
As mine sometimes are
Keep moving ahead
For there is much to be desired
And just maybe joy isn't very far
God's not through with you yet

Seasons Past

Thinking back on moments shared together
She was this close to being my Mrs.
Recalling tight hugs and apology letters
Late nights and passionate kisses
Early on I almost knew it would last
I wasn't playing games, but the feelings passed
There is no time for my regrets
My goodness, how things can change so fast
But I still remember every now and then
Our season of love that came and went
Like the setting sun or seasons past
But the sun it always rises again

A Million Dollars

Sometimes deep inside I wonder why
It can take so much effort just to get by
I need rest and love and life
But my wallet is thin and I'm lonely tonight
I'm heading east, the wind's blowing west
I become scared quite often, I confess
I'm not complaining, I'm trying my best
But a million dollars wouldn't hurt I guess
